ABOUT THE PROJECT
Moov is an urban ride-sharing platform built for a generation of city commuters who expect their transportation apps to be as fast, intuitive, and visually polished as the best consumer apps on the market. The redesign project encompassed the complete passenger-facing mobile experience — from opening the app and booking a ride through to payment, rating, and account management.
The product operates in an intensely competitive market where switching costs are low and user loyalty is driven almost entirely by experience quality. Every second of friction in the booking flow, every moment of visual confusion in the map interface, and every poorly communicated piece of status information represents a direct risk to retention and revenue.
THE CHALLENGE
Winning user loyalty in a market where the competition is one tap away
The existing Moov app was functional but visually dated and interaction-heavy — requiring too many steps to complete the core booking task and providing too little real-time feedback during the waiting period that follows. Users reported feeling uncertain and under-informed while waiting for their driver, leading to support contacts and cancellations that were costly for both the platform and drivers.
Key challenges included:
Reducing booking flow to the minimum viable number of steps
Designing a real-time map experience that felt live and responsive
Creating informative waiting state experiences that reduced anxiety
Establishing a visual identity that felt energetic but easy to use
Building smooth, purposeful motion throughout the core user journey
OUR APPROACH
Speed as a design value, not just a performance metric
The design strategy treated speed and clarity as the primary design values — every screen was evaluated against the question of whether it was moving the user toward their goal as efficiently as possible. Motion design was used not for decoration but as a functional tool for communicating state changes, loading progress, and real-time location updates in ways that made the experience feel alive and responsive.
VISUAL DIRECTION
The Moov visual language is bold and energetic — a high-contrast dark mode primary interface with vivid accent colors that communicate the dynamism of urban movement. The map interface was redesigned to feel genuinely live, with smooth vehicle movement animations, predictive route visualization, and subtle ambient motion in the waiting state that communicates activity and progress without requiring the user to actively monitor the screen.
Typography is large, confident, and immediately readable in outdoor and low-light conditions — a critical usability requirement for an app most frequently used during commutes and at night. The booking flow was reduced from seven steps to three through aggressive information consolidation and smart defaults based on user location history and time-of-day patterns.

DESIGN SYSTEM
A mobile-first design system was built to support the full range of app states and interaction patterns across both iOS and Android platforms.
Core elements included:
Dark mode primary component library with light mode variants
Map and location UI component set
Real-time status and progress communication patterns
Motion and animation specification library
Cross-platform component parity guidelines
FINAL SOLUTION
A ride-sharing experience as fast as the service itself
The redesigned Moov app delivered a dramatically improved booking experience that reduced average time-to-confirmation significantly and measurably decreased ride cancellation rates during the waiting period. By treating every second of the user journey as an opportunity to communicate clearly and move efficiently, the product established a new standard of experience quality within the platform — and gave Moov a meaningful competitive advantage in a market where experience is everything.
